“The greatest remedy for anger is delay.” – Seneca
We aren’t purely stimulus-response animals. We do have the ability to make choices. Feeling anger, or anything else is human. However, due to our unique ability to reason, we can wait to decide how we respond to this feeling. Our response isn’t driven by what happens. It’s driven by how we feel about it, what it means to us. Think about what getting angry or reacting emotionally would do. It may provide momentary emotional release, but it won’t solve a problem. It will make a volatile situation even worse. This is obviously easier said than done, but next time a moment like this arises, pause. Take a breath. Let reason prevail.
