“Good” – Jocko Willink
Jocko Willink is one of the greatest modern stoics, and his saying, “good,” is the epitome of that. It’s something that we have the opportunity to embrace right now. We all have a chance to make some good come out of the challenges that we’re facing right now. We all can do that at any time. We can always choose to view things as an obstacle or as an opportunity to be better. We could allow obstacles to discourage us, beat us down, or use them to forge a better soul. Something is encouraging about saying “good” when you face a problem. When you do that, you commit to finding how it could be genuinely real, to seeing how whatever this situation is actually could be useful. It isn’t just about reframing a negative thing; it is about understanding the authentic benefit that may come from it. While genuinely bad things certainly happen, most of the things that happen to us are open to interpretation. We can choose to see them as tragic obstacles, or we can get excited because of the potential for good. Amor fati, love what happens and focus on the good.
